3D Printers Print by Learning

The US Navy signed an agreement with Lockheed Martin for an R & D project. The project aims to take a new step in additive production technology for complex metals.

The $ 5.8 million contract covers a two-year period. It is aimed to gain learning ability to the printers used in layered product technology that provides significant material savings and more sensitive products than current methods. With the sensors to be added to the printers and the laser measuring devices, the robots will produce better components. Researchers are planning to use machine learning techniques at this point.

It is planned to save time when the production of the complex components with a new technology is achieved after the production and production and the testing and qualification phase lasts for quite a long time. It is also aimed to accelerate the production processes by shortening the test and qualification phase. The first studies have also started on Ti-6AI-4V titanium alloy.
