Cracks were found in one of the US Air Force C-130H Hercules. As a result, a total of 123 Hercules transport aircraft are now temporarily grounded. Air Force has spotted cracks on the lower center wing joint during scheduled depot maintenance.
The aircraft that are grounded have not received the extended service life center wing box and have more than 15 thousand hours of flight. Maintenance and engineering experts are ordered to inspect the aircraft to ensure airworthiness, including overseas at the moment. Inspections take around eight hours for each individual aircraft. If no cracks are detected, the aircraft can immediately returned to service.
Hercules, which has about 8000 km range and operated by crew of four, can carry 20 tons of payload or 92 soldiers.
