The Iranian Navy destroyer has been equipped with a close-in weapon system (CIWS) an indigenized version of Phalanx, that is used for defence against anti-ship missiles, for the very first time. Iran announced that it is working on such system in August 2018.
Tasnim news agency quoted the Commander of the Iranian Navy Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi that the system is going to be installed on vessels that carry out missions in deep and distant waters.
He suggested that Kamand can destroy any target from a distance of two kilometres by firing between 4,000 and 7,000 rounds per minute.
