The Russian Navy to begin the modernization of the Be-12 Chayka (NATO Code: Mail) maritime patrol aircraft. Platform, which will be equipped with a new sonar, scanning sensors and a MAD (Magnetic Anomaly Detector) as well as new depth charges and torpedoes. The flying boat is considered the oldest aircraft in service with the Russian fleet. The Be-12 made its maiden flight back in 1960, and its production was completed in 1973. The new equipment will be able to give Chayka a second life. Chayka, which is operated by crew of four, has a range of 3300 km and payload capacity of 3 tons. Aircraft can accomplish search and rescue missions thanks to its flying boat design.
