Taiwan to Build Submarines with Local Resources 20 November, 2020

Taiwan will begin building a new fleet of submarines next week.

Seeking to increase China's military strength against the increasingly modernized Armed Forces, Taiwan announced that it will begin the first submarine operation next week, which will be developed with the country's resources.

Taiwan inventory has conventional submarines of Zwaardvis, Type 041 and Tench class. China is estimated to be operationally using four different types of nuclear submarines and four different conventional submarines.

A total of eight submarines are planned to be built. The first platform is expected to enter service by the end of 2024.

Taiwan's leadership, which has increased its defence budget by 10%, argues that land and airspace are often violated by Chinese aircraft and warships.
