Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS) tested the Şimşek High Speed Target Drone System in Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani media reported.

The report said Şimşek was selected for use in the shooting tests carried out by the Azerbaijan Air Force to test the effectiveness of air defence systems. A total of six flights have been completed in three days near Baku.

It is stated that Şimşek is integrated into Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) Anka UAV. It can be used in radar tracking with air-air, surface-air, anti-aircraft and missile systems.

In order to meet the training needs of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) air defence units, ŞİMŞEK High Speed Target Aircraft System was developed in 2009.
