Additional Strike Power for Nuke Subs 1 November, 2016

BAE Systems signed a contract with General Dynamics (GD) Electric Boat to install Virginia Payload Module (VPM) tubes for the nuclear-powered Virginia-class (SSN 774) submarines. GD was awarded a $965 million contract by the US Navy in 2010 to support Virginia class submarines and as a part of this engineering contract, BAE systems will provide 28 additional missiles to each submarine and increase their strike capabilities. Estimated delivery of the new VPM is 2019. The US Navy’s Virginia-class submarines have a 115 m hull and displacement capacity of 7 thousand 800 tonnes. They can operate at a speed of more than 25k while being submerged, and dive to more than 240 m-deep.
