Additional Super Tucano Order by Afghanistan

Additional Super Tucano Order by Afghanistan 11 October, 2016

Afghanistan is to purchase an additional four A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft under the previously signed contract for 20 platforms. Disclosed on 7 October, the Afghan Air Force’s (AAF) new order will be delivered within 18 to 20 months upon signing the contract. Embraer Defense & Security partnered with Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) for the production of first order and although the bid is open to other manufacturers, they will probably be the contracting party for the additional order as well. Super Tucano features a single 1,600 SHP Pratt & Whitney PT6A-68/3 turboprop engine. Equipped with two 12.7 mm machine guns, one in each wing, A-29 has five hardpoints under the wing and a fuselage that can carry up to 1,500 kg of additional weapons.
