Germany Completed its Submarine Fleet

Germany Completed its Submarine Fleet 6 October, 2016

The sixth Type 212A submarine U36 is to enter service with the German Navy on 10 October. A ceremony will be held at the Eckernförde Navy Base, in which the vessel will be homeported. The submarine was built by Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft AG (HDW) and and Thyssen Nordseewerke GmbH (TNSW). The most prominent feature of the Type 212 is an air-independent propulsion system using a silent hydrogen/oxygen fuel cell system that makes the submarine more difficult to detect and inceases submersion time. In September 2006, the German Navy ordered two further U212s to add on its four submarines of the same class. U36 is the sixth and last vessel in Navy’s fleet and just like U 35, it is 1.2 meters longer than their sister ships give additional space for a new reconnaissance mast.
