Presence Demonstration in Asia-Pacific October 26, 2016

The US Navy deployed its Los Angeles class nuclear powered attack submarine USS Columbia in United States Fleet Activities Yokosuka on 25 October. The routine visit of the submarine demonstrates the US military presence in Asia-Pacific Region and aims to support Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force. The deployment also contributes to regional stability and maritime security. With its 110 m length and 10 m beam USS Columbia has a submerged displacement of 6 thousand 818 tonnes. The submarine is also equipped with various mine and missile systems, including Tomahawk cruise missiles, Harpoon anti-ship missiles, Mk 60 Captor mines. USS Columbia will stay in the region for six months.
