Barak 8 Test Fire

Barak 8 Test Fire 21 September, 2016

India test-fired the Barak 8 medium-range surface-to-air missile (MRSAM), a product of the joint development between India's Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, on 20 September. Defence sources said the missile was fired against a pilot-less target aircraft (PTA) to gauge the killing efficiency of the system and it achieved a direct hit. The missile is designed to defend against any type of airborne threat including aircraft, helicopters, anti-ship missiles, and UAVs. The system includes a Multi-Functional Surveillance and Threat Alert Radar for detection, tracking and guidance of the missile. Each Barak system, costs about $24 million.
