Boeing flies first upgraded USAF E-3G May 25, 2016

Boeing announced that it has successfully conducted the first flight of an upgraded US Air Force (USAF) E-3G Sentry Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft.

The updated AWACS cockpit enables the USAF to operate the aircraft with a reduced flight crew size of two. The new displays replace 1970s-era analogue cockpit dials. The use of off-the-shelf digital avionics remedies the USAF's difficulties with replacing obsolete systems in the ageing cockpit. Sentry is based on Boeing 707-320B Advanced model.
