During the tension between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Yerevan took a step out of sight.

Armenia, whose defence infrastructure is mostly dependent on Russia, continues its defence investments. The factory, called Neuron GAM Facility, started operations in Kotayk near the capital Yerevan. AK-103 assault rifles are being manufactured in the facility, which was visited by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Defense Minister David Tonoyan and Minister of High-Tech Hakob Arshakyan on July 7. The new 7.62x39 mm, 9x18 Makarov and 9x19 Parabellum production lines were also installed in the factory with an annual production capacity of 50 thousand rifles. 7.62x39 mm, 7.62x54 mmR and 12.7x108 mm ammunition manufacturing lines, which are currently in use are also being modernized with 24 million USD agreement by Russian-based Spetsmashingeneering.

Yerevan, which has AK series different rifles in its inventory, developed an assault rifle called K-3, which are using 5.45x39 rounds at the beginning of 2000s. The rifle in bullpup configuration, which was developed with domestic facilities and has the AK-74 mechanism, was actively used. Despite this, the Armenian Army continues to acquire Russian-origin assault rifles.
