F-35’s Joint Standoff Weapon at trials 2 April, 2016

The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter conducted the first test launch of a Raytheon’s AGM-154 Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW), the Pentagon's F-35 programme office announced on 31 March. The C-model test aircraft, CF-05, released the 1,000 lb air-to-surface guided glide bomb from an internal weapons bay over the US Navy's (USN's) Atlantic Test Ranges. The JSOW is a joint USN-US Air Force (USAF) programme and can be launched from six additional combat aircraft in both services.  Additional JSOW tests will be conducted throughout 2016. The test marked the first non-Mk 80 series bomb ever released from an F-35 Lightning II.
