F-35s to be deployed to Alaska 5 April, 2016

Air Force's first operational F-35 joint strike fighters in the Pacific theatre will be Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska. First two squadrons of F-35As will join the wing's F-16 squadrons currently assigned to Eielson which is a base outside of the continental United States. The decision to base two F-35 squadrons at Eielson, combined with the existing F-22s at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, will double the Air Force's fifth-generation fighter aircraft presence in the Pacific arena.
