First Lada-class Submarine About to Become Operational September 29, 2016

Russia’s first Lada-class diesel-electric submarine, St. Petersburg, meets the operational expectations of the Russian Navy and the evaluations are expected to be completed at the end of this year. Fourth generation submarine St. Petersburg is the first submarine Rubin Design Bureau developed under the Project 677, and it has been delivered to the Navy in 2010. The Admiralty Wharves Shipyard is now building the second and the third submarines, under the same project. Lada-class is an improved version of the Project 636 Kilo-class with much quieter, new combat systems.
