France Received Hercules 20 September, 2019

Under the contract signed between France and the US government through Foreign Military Sales, France purchased two C-130J-30 Super Hercules transport aircraft and two KC-130J tanker aircraft. The French Air Force has received the first of two US-made KC-130J Hercules tanker aircraft. The two C-130J-30 airlifters were delivered in 2017 and 2018, and a second KC-130J will deliver in 2020.

“In choosing to operate both the C-130J-30 and the KC-130J, France has built a diverse airlift fleet that expands both the capabilities and global reach of the French Armed Forces,” said Rod McLean, vice president and general manager, Air Mobility & Maritime Missions at Lockheed Martin.

The KC-130 is the basic designation for a family of the extended-range tanker version of the C-130 Hercules transport aircraft modified for aerial refuelling. It can transport 27 tons of fuel. All of these Super Hercules are operated in conjunction with France’s existing C-130H fleet.
