India has confirmed the procurement of a new helicopter. Indian Ministry of Defence decided to procure 24 MH-60R Romeo helicopters. Procurement proposed to cost approximately US $ 3.39 billion has not been approved yet.

Maiden flight of the Romeo conducted in 2001. Helicopter could be used in many missions such as ASW (Anti-Submarine Warfare), ASuW, SAR, fire support, transportation, The helicopter has a glass cockpit and equipped with Link 16 suites. The platform can be equipped with AGM-114K Hellfire for ASuW missions and Mk 46 and Mk 50 torpedoes for ASW missions, as well as various electronic warfare equipment. Romeos are propelled by twin 1910 HP engine and has a range of 834 kilometers.

India has signed an agreement in excess of US $ 2 billion for the supply of 111 navy helicopters in the weeks. Some of the helicopters to be supplied by this agreement will be produced in India.
