Korean Ship to Hormuz 21 January, 2020

A new one has been added to the safety measures taken in the Strait of Hormuz which is established under the leadership of the USA.

Korea was added to the countries that deployed ships independently from the U.S. task force, especially as a result of actions against UK tankers. The Republic of Korea has decided to deploy a unit to the Strait of Hormuz for anti-piracy operations. In this context, Cheonghae Anti-Piracy Unit will be shifted to the region. The unit, which is stated to operate independently from the task group established under the US command, was created to serve under the same purpose CTF-151 off Somalia. The unit, which is stationed at the Jinhae Marine Base, has accomplished many successful operations under the CTF-151. It was stated that the unit, which served with the destroyer ROKS Gang GAM-chan (DDH-979) in the latest rotation, was commissioned to secure Korean citizens and freedom of navigation. It was also announced that the Cheonghae Anti-Piracy Unit, which is stated to be performing its duties independently, could carry out operations in cooperation with the US units when necessary.

Recently, Japan announced that it would deploy military elements in the region, regardless of the USA.
