Additional Measures for Houthi Missiles

Additional Measures for Houthi Missiles 30 June, 2020

Saudi Arabia, which has been attacked with different missiles from time to time by Houthis, is increasing the measures against missiles.

Raytheon, one of the leading defence companies in the USA, will procure AN / TPY-2 radar to Saudi Arabia within the scope of FMS (Foreign Military Sales). In addition to Saudi Arabia's two radars, a total of 12 AN/TPY-2s will be delivered to the United States, seven of which are to be used together with THAAD and five with for a forward-based mode.

AN / TPY-2 is an X-Band radar system based on Gallium Nitrite (GaN) technology. The radar, which can be used as part of the THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense / Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) guidance equipment, can be deployed independently from THAAD for detection and early warning tasks.

In October 2017, the U.S. approved the procurement of 44 THAAD launchers, 360 THAAD missiles, 16 Mobile Fire Control and Communication Stations, and seven AN/TPY-2 radars to Saudi Arabia.
