The Indian Navy is to issue a Request for Information regarding seven next generation corvettes to replace Khukri-class vessels. The project will be conducted under Make in India initiative and open ofr both private and state-run shipyards. One of the applicants to the RFI will be the Relience Defence and Engineering Limited company, Managing Director of which stated that they were capable of building various types of warships in their shipyard, in shorter times than expected.
The corvettes will be heavily armed, including a minimum 8 surface-to-surface missiles, two lightweight torpedo launchers and will have low radar, acoustic, magnetic, visual and infrared signatures. The vessels also expected to feautre active array sonar and have 4 thousand nautical miles range.
