Indo-French partnership to replace Israeli Barak -1 31 March, 2016

India and France are showcasing a static mock-up of a vertical-launch short-range surface-to-air missile (SRSAM) for naval applications at the MBDA stand at Defexpo. Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and MBDA of France will jointly develop and build the system in India to meet the requirements of the Indian Navy. New missile will replace the Indian Navy's Israeli Barak-1 air defence systems. The project is still awaiting the Indian government's approval. Weighing around 100 kilograms, SRSAM is a Mach 3-class missile, has a range of 40 kilometres, is used for naval air defence applications and is launched vertically to provide 360-degree defence coverage.
