Japan to acquire SM-3 Block IIA Missiles August 28, 2019

The State Department has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Japan of up to 73 Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) Block IIA with support for an estimated cost of $3.295 billion. The Defence Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale on August 27, 2019.

The Government of Japan has requested to buy up to 73 Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) Block IIA missiles. Also included are MK 29 Canisters with packing, handling, storage, and transportation (PHS&T) kits; up to ten Special Assignment Airlift Mission (SAAM) flights; U.S. Government and contractor representatives' technical assistance, engineering and logistical support services, and other related elements of logistics and program support.
