While European countries are announcing their new generation combat aircraft projects, there is some news from Korea that started to work on these years ago. The KFX project, which is expected to become one of the most significant projects in the history of the Korean defence industry, is ready for production shortly. The project, which takes its name from the initials of the words Korean Fighter Experimental, appears to have slowly emerged from the experimental phase. Within the scope of the project with an investment of approximately seven billion US Dollars, the production of the first batch of 120 aircraft is planned to start in 2026. The total cost of the project will increase to 15 billion US Dollars with this order, which will require approximately an additional eight billion US Dollars. The critical design review is completed, and the prototype production will begin next month. According to officials, 9,300 out of 12,000 detailed drawings required for KFX, which is 78 %, are completed. Within the scope of the project carried out by the State-owned Agency for Defence Development and KAI, 225 companies are employed.
