The U.S. Department of Defence and Lockheed Martin has signed a contract worth about 347 million US Dollars part of a multi-year hypersonic weapons development in support of the Army’s focus on long-range precision strike missiles.

The Lockheed Martin-team will develop and integrate a land-based hypersonic strike prototype in partnership with the Army Hypersonic Project Office. Army plans to receive first prototypes at 2023.

The hypersonic weapon system, which can reach speeds of more than five Mach, known for their high precision attack capacities over long distances.
