New Control Unit for the M1 Abrams July 1, 2019

Honeywell signed a contract worth US $ 16.5 million to procurement J7 Digital Electronic Control Units to the Abrams family, the third generation main battle tank of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The process is expected to end on 28 June 2024.

The M1 Abrams is designed for modern armoured ground warfare. It has a 1500 hp AGT1500 multifuel turbine engine, sophisticated Chobham composite armour, a computer fire control system and separate ammunition storage in a blow-out compartment along with NBC protection for crew safety. The M1 Abrams is one of the heaviest main battle tanks in service. While the initial models of the M1 were armed with a licensed-produced 105 mm Royal Ordnance L7 gun, later variants feature a licensed Rheinmetall 120 mm L/44 for increased firepower.
