Malaysia’s maritime choice: Thales’ Fulmar 21 April, 2016

Thales has signed a contract with the Malaysian Maritime Safety Agency (MMEA) to equip its ships with its new UAV Fulmar system. The system Fulmar Thales will launch on six new-generation patrol vessels (NGPC) being built in Destini shipyards Shipbuilding and Engineering Sdn. Bhd. The specific design of this fixed-wing UAV allows it to take off on a ramp from the vessel and to a light Vessel pocket to be recovered, while the vessel is located at sea. Drone fixed wing with a wingspan of 3.1 meters, the Fulmar weighs 19 kilos, and can fly at an altitude of 3000 meters. It will expand the maritime surveillance capabilities of Malaysia, facing a resurgence of acts of piracy and smuggling.
