The 80th Anniversary of the Montreux Convention Regarding the Regime of the Straits July 24, 2016

Celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, the Montreux Convention Regarding the Regime of the Straits is a highly essential and critical document complementing the Turkish Republic’s sovereignty over the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles.

The Montreux Convention, replacing the Straits Convention as part of the Treaty of Lausanne, which placed the administration of the Turkish Straits under the authority of a UN-mandated commission, is legally and politically an inseparable part of Lausanne Treaty.
