Multnational Tanker Delivery

Multnational Tanker Delivery 30 June, 2020

Aerial refuelling aircraft are an important force multiplier for the forces as they extend the flight range and endurance of the fleets without the requirement for a base.

Airbus announced that the first A330 MRTT (Multirole Tanker Transport) was officially delivered to the Multinational Tanker Transport Fleet created for the use of NATO countries. The program, which is carried out in cooperation with OCCAR and NSPA, includes NATO countries, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Norway, Germany, Belgium and the Czech Republic. Eight A330 MRTTs have already been ordered for the unit created for the tanker pool. The countries will deploy these platforms in a shared flight time cycle. Maintenance and sustainment costs of the platforms will be shared accordingly.

With a maximum take-off weight of 233,000 kilograms, the A330 MRTT can carry 111,200 kilograms of fuel or 45,000 kilograms payload. Powered by two Rolls-Royce Trent 772B engines, which has 316 kN thrust, the platform can reach 14,800 km of operational range. MRTT can refuel the friendly elements with the boom under the tail section or underwing hose-drogue system.
