"NATO's Eye" in the Space 10 November, 2016

GovSat, a public-private joint venture company between the Luxembourg Government and satellite operator SES, was awarded a long term commercial satellite communications contract for NATO Alliance Ground Surveillance (AGS). The announcement came from SES on 8 November. The first satellite of the company, GovSat-1 is scheduled to be launched in 2017. 
The AGS system consists of air, ground and support segments, performing all-weather, persistent wide-area terrestrial and maritime surveillance in near real-time and will be able to contribute to a range of missions such as protection of ground troops and civilian populations, border control and maritime safety, the fight against terrorism, crisis management and humanitarian assistance in natural disasters.
