The USA continues its steps to improve its tactical strike capability.

The United States signed an agreement with Lockheed Martin for USD 946 million to procure cruise missiles. With contract; company will produce a total of 790 JASSM-ERs, which 360 ​​within the scope of Lot 17, 40 for Foreign Military Sales (FMS) customers, and 390 within Lot 18.

The air-to-surface long-range cruise missile AGM-158B JASSM-ER (Joint Air to Surface Standoff Missile Extended Range) can be effective at about 925 km range. The missile, which has 70% similar component and 95% similar software with AGM-158, has a submunition dispenser warhead option and new seeker differently than its predecessor.

In 2014, the US Air Force (USAF) started to put these missiles to its inventory. JASSM family can be launched platforms such as B-1B Lancer, B-2 Spirit, the B-52H Stratorfortress strategic bombers, as well as the F/A-18 Hornet family, F-15E Strike Eagle and the F- 16 Fighting Falcon.
