New Diesels to Power Italian Navy

New Diesels to Power Italian Navy 12 October, 2016

British Rolls-Royce will supply 14 MTU diesel engines for the seven new multi-purpose ocean-going patrol vessels that are being built by Fincantieri for the Italian Navy. Announcing the news on 5 October, Rolls Royce plans to start shipping the engines from 2017. Each vessel’s propulsion system will include two MTU type 20V 8000 M91L diesel engines able to power the vessels above 24 knots. The Fincantieri PPA-class vessels are being acquired as part of the Italian Navy’s fleet renewal plan. The first vessel is set to be delivered in 2021, with six more to follow by 2026. The procurement plan includes an option to order a further three PPA vessels.
