New Frigate for Italy

New Frigate for Italy 7 October, 2016

The Italian Navy has commissioned its fifth FREMM frigate Alpino from Fincantieri  on September 30. Ten frigates are being built for the Italian Navy under the Italian-French programme coordinated by the Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation (OCCAR). The vessel has been delivered in anti-submarine warfare (ASW) configuration. The FREMM vessels will replace the Italian Navy’s Lupo and Maestrale class frigates built by Fincantieri in the 1970s. The new frigate has already reached full operational capability and immediate readiness for service.
