Russia announced that it would start an R&D project in 2021, named Arbalet in order to develop a new robotic short-range surface-to-air missile system. The system to be developed under the project will have advanced capabilities in detecting, tracking and destroying air targets, including unmanned aerial vehicles and high-precision weapons systems. Lieutenant General Alexander Leonov, commander of the Russian Air Force, said the project will be carried out between 2021-2025 and the system is expected to be ready to enter service in 2030.
