Russian Navy to Detect Torpedoes Better 20 May, 2019


Russia has added a new one to the steps for increasing navy vessel capability increase works. According to the statement made by JSC, some platforms in the Russian Navy will be modernised increase their anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capabilities.

Project 1144.2 Orlan (NATO Code: Kirov) class RFNS Admiral Nakhimov (080) and RFNS Pyotr Velikiy (099) battlecruisers will be equipped with Paket-NK torpedo defence systems. The same system will also be used on the Project 22350 Admiral Gorshkov and Project 20380 Steregushchiy class ships. JSC Company announced that the Paket-NK system has completed the whole testing process.

Paket-NK has general purpose sonar system used in target detection, rotary and fixed launchers, launcher mounted combat systems, heat seeking torpedo and anti-torpedo torpedoes used against the targets of the system, has an automatic combat module. After detecting threads approaching the ship, the system increases the probability of target destruction by transferring target information to torpedoes. JSC says that the Package-NK provides 3 to 3.5 times more protection than standard anti-submarine warfare systems.
