Second Prototype for TERN

Second Prototype for TERN 22 November, 2016

The US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) commenced the development of a second test vehicle of tactically exploited reconnaissance node (TERN) programme. Northrop Grumman was awarded Phase III of the Tern programme last year, to develop a full-scale demonstrator system of a medium-altitude long-endurance UAS. Explaining the aim of this new demonstrator, DARPA programme manager told that it would enhance the robustness of the programme.
After completion of Phase III, the aircraft will be incorporated with propulsion, sensors, and other commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) systems to create a full-scale technology demonstration vehicle.
Tern is scheduled to begin ground-based testing in early 2018 followed by a series of at-sea flight tests.
