Nowadays the tensions in the Persian Gulf are rising. The similarity between the rhetoric used by the Trump administration to re-securitize Iran and those used by the Bush administration to securitize the Saddam Hussein regime before the 2003 Iraq war is drawing attention. Within these discourses, the concept of terrorism, ties with terrorist organizations and weapons of mass destruction are at the forefront.

The tensions between the United States (US) and Iran have increased in the last months. It is noteworthy that the discourses expressed by the representatives of the American administration are particularly similar to those of the Bush administration before the 2003 Iraq war. The discourses, which mainly focus on terrorist linkages and weapons of mass destruction, point to a new process of securitization.
