Third and Fourth Frigates are being Built 4 November, 2019

China has begun work on a third, and fourth Type 054A frigates on order for the Pakistan Navy. A steel cutting ceremony was held for the third and fourth ship at the Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard in China on November 1st. The contract signed between China Shipbuilding Trading Co. Ltd (CSTC) and the Pakistani government for procurement was announced in June 2018. According to Chinese sources, the deal includes four platforms. The class of ships built for Pakistan was named Type 054AP. Almost equal in size with its predecessor, the Type 54A was further modified to further reduce the radar footprint. The platform has a hangar suitable for the use of 10-ton class helicopters. In terms of specifications, the Type 054A has a full load displacement of 4,000 tons and total length of 134.1 m. With a cruising speed of 15 knots, the Type 054A offers a range of 8,000 nm. The Type 054A frigate is a class of Chinese multi-role frigates, the first of which entered service with the People's Liberation Army Navy Surface Force in 2007.

The Type 054A’s main armaments comprise of a 76 mm main gun, two quad-cell anti-ship missile (AShM) launchers, two triple-cell anti-submarine warfare (ASW) torpedoes, and a 32-cell vertical launch system (VLS) armed with HQ-16 medium-range surface-to-air missiles (SAM). The Pakistan version may have changes in the weapon and sensors system, which includes the use of the SRC2410C phased array radar instead of the Type 382 3D air search radar, as well as a different anti-ship missile developed in Pakistan.
