Anti-Laser Defence for US Aircraft

Anti-Laser Defence for US Aircraft 6 November, 2019

Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is concerned that laser weapons could target US aircraft in the future.

DARPA is looking for high-energy laser countermeasures; the agency posted online in an industry request for information. Agency wants a countermeasure that could be mounted on aircraft, as well as ground vehicles or ships.

Anti-laser defensive technology is based on a technology that can detect an attack, geo-locate the attacker and disrupt the laser weapon’s kill chain within milliseconds of an attack starting. The agency says its ideal defensive system would do all three functions, though it is open to considering a system that does just one or two features.
