Ukraine Plans to Acquire Apache AH-64 Helicopters

Ukraine Plans to Acquire Apache AH-64 Helicopters 23 December, 2019

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine plans to buy McDonnell Douglas AH-64 Apache attack helicopters to replace old Soviet helicopters of the Ukrainian army.

This decision was made as a result of a defence review, which ended last week, and its results were transferred to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence believes that gaps in the capabilities of the Ukrainian army and the defence-industrial complex should be eliminated through the purchase of modern weapons from abroad. The possible purchase of McDonnell Douglas AH-64 Apache helicopters, General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft, MIM-104 Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems and Javelin FGM-148F anti-tank missiles are examples of it.

The results of the review will be the basis for the development of the Military Security Strategy of Ukraine, strategies and programs for the development of the types and genera of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, other components of the defence forces.

Ukraine has sent a formal request for the purchase of military equipment in the United States through the US Department of Defence sales program.
