U.S. Produces Autonomous Solutions on The Battlefield

U.S. Produces Autonomous Solutions on The Battlefield 23 October, 2020

The U.S. Air Force has signed an agreement with BAE Systems for the Skyborg program, which will allow drones to act autonomously as needed.

Seeking to increase air combat power, the United States is developing unmanned systems that will team up with manned aircraft.  In this context, BAE Systems will design a modular UAV with autonomous properties. Skyborg is said to be a "cost effective" programme.

“This award will accelerate the development and deployment of manned-unmanned teaming technologies to give the U.S. Air Force a decisive edge in the battlespace,” said Ehtisham Siddiqui, general manager of Controls and Avionics Solutions at BAE Systems.

The program is supposed to be worth about US$400 million.
