Warthog Came To The Fore Again

Warthog Came To The Fore Again 15 December, 2017

The Afghan government is demanding that the US A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft be deployed in the country again. Known as the "Warthog", the aircraft has been a leading name for close air support for a long time due to its heavy armored structure. Renowned for the powerful seven-barrel Gatling system with a high firepower, the aircraft has been a topic of discussion for a long time in the USA. Due to its high maintenance cost, the aircraft divides the Ministry of Defence into two as it also has high performance. The same aircraft was offered to be donated to Turkey in the past, but the country turned down the offer.

This request from Afghanistan has not yet been reached a decision according to the Air Force Times website. Lance Bunch, general of the Air Force in charge of US operations in Afghanistan, said, "No decision has been made about moving the A-10s to the region." Currently, there are 18 F-16 aircraft in Afghanistan performing close air support mission.
