New Zealand Named Its Future Tanker April 12, 2017

The Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) has announced the name and homeport of its new naval fleet tanker on 10 April. Going to be built by South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), HMNZS Aotearoa is scheduled to be delivered to the navy by January, 2020 and replace HMNZS Endeavour. The vessel will be homeported in New Plymouth, Taranaki, on New Zealand's North Island. 166 m-long, 24,000-tonne vessel will become the largest ship to ever be operated by the RNZN. The tanker will have twice the displacement of HMNZS Endeavour and carry 30% more fuel with its capacity for 8,200 tonnes of F-76 marine diesel fuel, 1,550 tonnes of F-44 aviation fuel, 250 tonnes of fresh water, and 300 tonnes of dry cargo.
