Drill in the Tense Waters July 11, 2019

Turkey had a US weapons embargo experience after the peace operation and entered a new era in defense industry with especially ASELSAN. Turkey entered the same waters, while being under another embargo threat due to F-35/S-400 tension. Lieutenant Caner Gönyeli was commissioned under TCG Kocatepe with pennant number D-354 which has been sunk around Baf harbour. Kocatepe was sunk by Turkish jets due to lack of communication between Turkish Air Force and Turkish Naval Forces, and Gönyeli has fell a martyr in these waters. With the lessons taken from the operation, first steps at defence were going to taken for communication and ASELSAN was going to produce radio under license. Drill that has been named after Gönyeli happened at the east of the island. 13 observers from eight different countries (Afghanistan, Palestine, Qatar, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Kosovo, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan) joined the drill that happened between 10-13 June with the participation of Armed Forces Command and Operation Center, Ground Force Command, Naval Force Command, Air Force Command, Command of Coast Guard, Cyprus Peace Forces Command, TRNC Security Forces Command and Turkish and Cyprus Search and Rescue Headquarters.
