Star Wars Project of USA September 10, 2019

At the heart of the Cold War, there was the nuclear rivalry between the US and the USSR, and the balance of power, also known as Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD). The main variable of this nuclear equation was the nuclear warheads, and hence the means and systems to deliver them to their targets.

The tactical nuclear warheads to be used on the battlefield were delivered to the targets by tactical ballistic missiles, which were based on the German V-2 missiles in World War II. Meanwhile, until the 1960s, strategic nuclear warheads were to be delivered by strategic bombers. It was risky for these planes to reach their destination and return back after dropping the bombs due to interceptor aircraft and rapidly developing air defence missiles.
